Meme Dore was six months old when his mother fled with him from the civil war in Liberia. He grew up in Guinea, first in refugee camps, later on the streets. Until a man took him and his mother into his home and wanted to send him to school. Meme was refused, probably because the school still saw him as a street child. In that moment he made himself a promise: if I ever get the chance to help children the way I was helped, I will.
At the age of eight, Meme came to the Netherlands. Here he found people who believed in him before he had proven anything. Today, together with Stichting House of Talents de Meme, he is building a practice-based school in Nzérékoré, Guinea. The first bricks have been made.

When Meme and Dianne shared their story with us, we recognised a lot. They too believe you grow when you feel good, physically and mentally. What they are working towards: regular education, vocational training and sport together in one school, so young people earn a diploma and learn a trade that lets them find their own way. That makes them pioneers, and like Meme, a sports coach himself, Maeson uses his sports experience to pass on lessons that go beyond the craft: teamwork, discipline and taking responsibility. When you know your worth, you are able to give more to others. Meme is living proof of that.
That is why we are proud that House of Talents de Meme is a partner of MAESONS. In the barbershop, our newsletters, social channels and website, you can follow how the school grows, brick by brick.

Coming in for a fresh cut every few weeks? Then lay a brick in Nzérékoré every month as well. With a monthly gift, you help build what comes next. Because the foundation has Dutch ANBI charity status, your gift is tax-deductible in the Netherlands.
